Fierce Festival Board

I’m happy to announce that I recently joined the Board of Directors over at Fierce Festival

fierce

I’ve been attending their festival for much of the time that I’ve been in Birmingham and have worked with them on a couple of occasions, most recently presenting a lecture on internet culture at Fierce Festival 2013.

I’m happy to be joining the board to help them continue to exhibit challenging, exciting and, quite often, weird art!

Fierce Festival 2013

This year’s Fierce Festival starts on 4th October and I’ll be taking part in two ways:

Live Art in 2113

From 11ish on October 4th I’ll be taking part in a discussion at the mac where we give our thoughts on what we think live art will be like in 2113

Gif Party!

A gathering exploring the future and live art’s relationship to chance across various spheres in our lives as part of 2113, the Live Art UK Associated Gathering 2013. The public part of this day will involve self-organised clusters of conversations picking up on themes explored earlier in the day.

Visuals for 2xAA at Curious Sounds/Fierce Festival

I was asked at the last minute to provide some visuals for 2xAA’s set at Curious Sounds/8 Bit Lounge as part of Fierce Festival on Saturday 7th April.

Here’s a short video from his performance

And another

Fierce has written a great overview of the evening and other events that happened at the Burningham space:

The evening saw the first live performance as a collective who were complimented by the sounds from Andy Sax (recorded with plan b) who improvised a live saxophone performance that included an injection of musical tweakery and an audio that responded to the atmosphere and vibe within the space.

Burningham - FreeCode/FreeJazz

On Tuesday 19th April 2011 I’ll be doing some visual jamming with other local patchers at FreeCode/FreeJazz in Birmingham FreeCode/FreeJazz

MAX/MSP, VVVV, PD, Quartz Composer: Node based creation tools for a new generation of artist. Long used by artists to trigger installation pieces in galleries, these pc based junction boxes have transcended their initial intentions for the musical tweaker. Now boasting slicker interfaces and control of the raw computer hardware these multimedia engines have become a medium in their own right, letting non programmers get to grips with the digital synthesis of noise and colour on a visual level. Becoming ubiquitous with audio visual tweakery these programs can be used for closely linking sound and vision at a low level, resulting in unique and often stunning form and rhythm.
