On 11th June I took the fast train to Coventry to take part in Pecha Kucha Volume 14, which was curated by Ludic Rooms for Coventry Mysteries Festival.

One of my two primary reasons for being there was to take pictures using my Game Boy Camera. Despite it being a piece of kit that’s 15 years old, the camera was quite a hit, with over 60 people lining up to have their portrait taken in four shades of grey and printed out onto a one-inch sticker.

On June 11th from 7pm I’ll be making a superduperspecial appearance at volume 14 of Pecha Kucha Coventry, taking place - unsurprisingly - in Coventry at Taylor John’s House.

Ludic Rooms take the reins to curate a special PKN for the Coventry Mysteries Festival. This year the festival theme is Re-Creation and we have invited speakers from around the country to give their 400 seconds on the re-creation of a specialist subject.

An animation made with Hama Beads and a lot of patience between 2008 and 2012. The audio was made using Trippy H on a Game Boy Camera. To synchronise the loops I used this method.

I’ve been helping run a night at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath called 8Bit Lounge. To explain what it is imagine the coming together of beer, Game Boy music/chiptunes and old consoles!

Now that I have the Game Boy Camera and Printer, LSDJ and will soon have the Transferer and 32M Cartridges I’m hoping to make something like this

One thing I also really like is this dance piece:

I would’ve like to have seen the dancers incorporate more erratic movement and even some sort of costumes (Princess Peach and Mario perhaps), but overall I think it shows that Game Boy Music isn’t just for the hobbyist

Now I’ve got a Game Boy Printer as well. Not really needed for any projects, but it’s just a bit of fun! It’s amazing how awful the quality is, but at the same time that’s what makes it so cool!

It’s surprising how hard it is to win a Game Boy from ebay. Nearly everyone wants one and because they’re usually sold in a bundle with other games and accessories it usually goes for about £30. Luckily I managed to get one from the Indoor Market for £5 and the Game Boy Camera for another £5. Schweet!

Like everyone else and their mother I’m hoping to get my groove on and make some music using programs such as LSDJ. I’m gonna get a Game Boy Pocket to make the actual music on, due to it’s bigger screen and better display, but according to some surveys the DMG has the best sound. So I’ll export it all using this one.
