On 23rd September myself and Lucy Hutchinson will be showing new work from our Evasive Manoeuvres project at The Disrupted/Disruptive Pattern at Leamington Spa Art Gallery as part of the Leamington Camouflage festival.
Since the camofleurs were operating in Leamington Spa during WW2, the world has changed immeasurably. What form does camouflage take in the age of Big Data, ubiquitous Wi-Fi and so called smart devices?
The Office for Art, Design and Technology (led by Ryan Hughes) is delivering its Camouflage Season as a part of Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum’s exhibition, Concealment and Deception and as a part of Leamington Camouflage Festival. For its Coding Camo Workshop on the 17th August I’ll be delivering a Pure Data workshop at the headquarters of Office for Art, Design and Technology at Eaton House, Coventry.
This workshop will teach basic computer code using Processing, Pure Data and Live Code Lab and will result in a collaborative performance. The workshop will be led by Ryan Hughes and participants will benefit from 2 days working with established visiting practitioners, Antonio Roberts and Ashley James Brown. The final day of the workshop will focus on collaboratively composing a new work for performance which explores what camouflage might look like in the age of big data, ubiquitous wi-fi and so called smart devices.
From 9th-15th June I was one of the participating artists in residence at Jesphone Gardens in Leamington Spa for Post-Modern Plant Life: An [RHP] CDRs Artist Laboratory. This was a really great opportunity to do a lot of focussed work on some unfinished projects and also try out new things both on and off the screen. I also probably lost some weight due to how frikkin hot it was!

From 9th - 15th June I’ll be taking part in Post-Modern Plant Life: An [RHP] CDRs Artist Laboratory in at Jephson’s Gardens in Leamington Spa:
Post-Modern Plant Life: An [RHP] CDRs Artist Laboratory will provide an opportunity for a group of practitioners from fields including contemporary art, experimental music and academia to spend time together in the unique setting of The Temperate House in Leamington Spa’s Jephson’s Gardens to see how their respective practices can interact with each other and with the visually exciting and complex space.
A great time was had at the first salon for the Midlands Experimental Moving Image Collective on Friday 30th November, despite the cold!
The webcam that I was hoping to use didn’t work with the Raspberry Pi (something the team are aware of) so I had to use my laptop instead. This didn’t present any problems, but it would’ve been good to show off the Raspberry Pi! ;-) Here’s everything that the webcam capture over the three-hour exhibition:
On Friday 30th November I’ll be taking part in the Midlands Experimental Moving Image Collective’s first salon, entitled Warpaint. It’ll be held at Althorpe Street Studios & Gallery in Leamington Spa [map] from 7pm.
MEMIC Film Salon 1: Warpaint is the launch event of MEMIC (Midlands Experimental Moving Image Collective). Come along for a screening of a program of artists’ film and video accompanied by an exhibition of moving image installation works. Including work by artists from around the Midlands (many of whom will be in attendance), as well as work by a number of international artists.
